WFPF Certification Program
The World Freerunning Parkour Federation offers a Parkour Teaching Certification Program for gyms and instructors in the US and Europe. Six times a year, in NY, LA, Austin, Denver, Liverpool (UK) and Cologne (GERMANY), our master instructors, some of the most accomplished and best-known freerunners in the world, train qualified students in a comprehensive parkour curriculum over a five-day intensive program. Inspired by the work of Ryan and Anthony Doyle, whose Liverpool-based Airborn Academy has set the UK standard for the safe practice of parkour by students of all ages, the WFPF Certification Program and licensed WFPF curriculum is the gold standard for the safe and responsible teaching of parkour/freerunning.

Teaching Certification Program
Based on the Official WFPF Curriculum (all rights reserved) as developed by Ryan and Anthony Doyle of Airborn Academy, UK
In cooperation with Ben Jenkin, Daniel Arroyo and Robbie Corbett
Interest in the discipline of parkour/freerunning has grown exponentially over the last five years, arguably eclipsing boys’ gymnastics as an organized activity, with scores of gymnastics and martial arts academies across the country offering parkour classes as a major part of their curriculum. But parkour as a safe, teachable discipline is currently under assault. Certain organizations are now threatening to withdraw insurance coverage from these academies unless parkour programs are rebranded as “freestyle gymnastics”. If parkour gets absorbed by traditional gymnastics, it will die as a discipline. At the same time, the future of parkour is also threatened by the lack of a progressive training program and established safe practices. In response, the World Freerunning Parkour Federation, a recognized global leader in the safe advancement of parkour as a sport and lifestyle, has partnered with some of the most respected parkour athletes in the world to create a progressive curriculum/certification program that will ensure the continued growth of parkour as a transformational discipline. Over two years in the making, the WFPF Certification Program has been carefully constructed to continue to encourage the creative, grass roots nature of parkour, while also establishing safe practices and a common vocabulary of movement.
Level 1 Certification- Three-day program
WFPF Level 1 Teaching Certification Program is held at your facility for groups of 10-15 or 15-20 only. In exchange for the use of your facility, WFPF will offer full scholarships to two teachers of your choice for the Level One Certification program.
For the next six months until the end of September 2012, the cost for the WFPF Level 1 Certification Program is $375 per person ($300 per person if you are a WFPF affiliate). Starting October 2012, the non-affiliate price will go up to $450. For groups of less than 20 students, an additional flat travel fee of $500 will be charged. In order to help us keep other costs down and also to enhance your experience and ours we ask that you help find hosts for 2 WFPF Certification teachers. Additional scholarships may be available on a case-by-case basis.
Upon completion, each student will receive a Certificate and photo i.d., bearing your unique serial number, and a hard copy of the complete WFPF curriculum. Each certified instructor will be listed in the WFPF online registry, searchable by name and zip code. A yearly renewal fee of $100 will be required to keep your certification in good standing, which will entitle you to regular updates, merchandise discounts, suggestions on how to market yourself and your class, as well as other exclusive benefits, and discounts on next level certifications.
Requirements: Reasonable proficiency in the practice of basic parkour is required to be accepted into this program. A letter of recommendation by a WFPF athlete or affiliate, or other recognized teacher or similar authority, or a simple video (static camera with no fancy cuts is fine) showing proficiency in safety rolls, vaults, basic floor, wall and bar skills, etc.
Insurance Approved:
The WFPF Teaching Certification program meets the standards and requirements of our Insurance Carrier who can help you and your facility obtain insurance, once certified. And yes, with our insurer, you can call your program “Parkour” instead of Freestyle Gymnastics or something else stupid like that.
Beginning Summer 2012, Level 2 Certifications will be available for all Level 1 instructors or those who can demonstrate appropriate proficiency (Levels 3 & 4 will be introduced in early 2013). Once a gym has two Level 2 instructors on staff, they will be eligible for designation as an Official WFPF Licensed Parkour Training Facility. Other costs and additional benefits will apply.
